Since 1996, when NCVO first published the UK Voluntary Sector Statistical Almanac, we have been producing reliable information, statistics and analysis on the size and scope of the voluntary sector. Widely cited by the media, government policy makers and sector leaders the Almanac gives a definitive overview of the voluntary sector, enhanced by our analysis of long-term trends. This year, to accompany the launch of our UK Civil Society Almanac 2012, we are very pleased to present this website allowing readers to access the analysis, charts and tables online.
NCVO is the largest membership body for the voluntary sector in England, supporting voluntary organisations (as well as social enterprises and CICs), from large national bodies to community groups working at a local level. NCVO believes its members and those with a stake in civil society need the best quality evidence base to help them inform policy and practice and plan for the future. Our analysis draws upon our own unique historical dataset, developed in partnership with the Third Sector Research Centre (TSRC), plus data and evidence from a range of government and industry research.
Through this website, members of NCVO are able to access high quality digital versions of all the charts and graphs in the Almanac which can be downloaded and used to strengthen funding bids, presentations, plans and strategies. Members can also download the complete publication as a pdf and access additional analysis and comment. If you are an NCVO member just register and log into the site to access all this and more.
The Almanac includes analysis and information on civil society and the voluntary sector exploring their size and scope, income, expenditure, assets and workforce. To enable ease of navigation we have split our analysis into bite size question and answers. To explore this site use the tabs above or see the detailed contents list, either overall or specifically for the civil society, voluntary sector or data bank sections.
We are keen to know what you think of our site, please let us know your thoughts.

The Almanac is available as a full colour, 100-page book from NCVO's publication store.
